“Making Way For Joy” is the newest single from Sydney alt-folk group Dusken Lights, released on 10th June 2025.
The song is an invitation to set aside fear and foolishness, and to consider redirecting the compass towards tenderness. Why not march all day and all night to the fabled province of joy. Let’s not pretend this manifesto leads down less broken roads than that manifesto. Or that this faith murdered less heretics than that philosophy. What are all those squirrelled resources for? Is there a trophy presentation at the gates of the afterlife? Why favour this community? Why annihilate that culture?
There’s a gentle, nearly imperceptible buzz, tickling the soles of your intangibleness. Notice that instead. Let it draw you a map. With some luck the whole of you will burn up into nothingness in its inevitable bonfire.
Dusken Lights have been writing songs and occasionally sending them out through the front door. One or two snuck out through the back door. Those songs heard there was an industry you could be a part of but they were never heard from again. The band recently set up a roadside stall. They’re selling lemonade. It’s not too bad. One kid said it’s refreshing.
