[video of the week] Pascal Babare – My Heart

“My Heart” is from Pascal Babare’s 4th solo LP “Cave Without A Name” , which releases on the 17th of September 2021 on Oscarson.

“My Heart” is one of Babare’s first true love songs – reminiscent of early Leonard Cohen, and with just his voice and guitar, it’s a stripped back and intimate conclusion to the densely layered 12 tracks on his soon to be released LP “Cave Without A Name”.

“My Heart” is one of the more traditional folk songs on the album; a loving and playful dedication to his wife who, at the time, was studying in Prague for 5 months while Babare was working in Australia. They’d parted ways in Italy at the end of their honeymoon, and Babare captures some of these moments through his characteristically wry lyrics – “I try to hide my crying from the stranger beside me, though he did seem quite nice” – and his warm and bittersweet melodies.

Babare originally proposed to his wife in Japan, so it seems fitting that the music video for ‘My Heart’ was filmed at Denkiyubathhouse in Tokyo – Japan being a place they both share a deep love for and have returned to many times since. The video was made by Tokyo-based filmmaker Rumi Ooki.
