“The Throat” is the first single off “Please Leave Quietly”, the first album by Olin Janusz, out on vinyl via Stellar Frequencies, Araki Records and Candlepin Records, on April 5th, 2023.
As dense thematically as it is sonically, the first half acts as a ballad to mental illness at quarter speed, pedal steel winding through verses and strings blooming in choruses. The second half unravels to reveal a sprawling instrumental to mirror the sentiment without words.
The video, shot by filmmaker Joan Sabatier harkens back to Bergman’s “Winter Light” and can be perceived as anything from an escape, a return or resignation.
