Alternative, melodic and beautiful are just some of the words used to describe the music of Calming River, the pseudonym of British born songwriter, Joshua Malcolm. The name may conjure tranquillity but there has always been a latent, opposing flow of tension and strife to be found—a fragility that emanates within darkened confines.
Calming River’s previous releases have been widely appreciated by folk circles, a feature in the Unsigned Guide and have received numerous radio plays across Europe and the UK.
On the 27th October, Calming River is back with his new single “Anniversary”, a song that addresses prejudice and the loudening silencing of people. Fittingly the track is predominantly instrumental before Malcolm poignantly addresses the listener with a short body of lyrics, leaving with the line “We’re from too far away”.
