“Cut Knuckle” is the latest single by Monnone Alone, out now via Lost And Lonesome.
Although the name may suggest otherwise, Monnone Alone are a bona fide pop group based around the sagacious songwriting of Mark Monnone (ex-Lucksmiths) and featuring members of A-grade pop tinkerers Architecture in Helsinki, Mid-State Orange and Aleks & the Ramps. That’s almost as bona fide as it gets.
With a frighteningly taut rhythm section, augmented by Louis Richter’s shimmering 12-string guitar, “Cut Knuckle” is two-and-a-half minutes of uptight jangly angst, with Monnone delivering his urgent—though world weary—statement of intent: “I won’t let it drag us in / I won’t let it break the skin”.
Recorded by Melbourne-based UK producer Gareth Parton (Foals, The Go! Team), “Cut Knuckle” is the first single taken form Monnone Alone’s second album “Summer of the Mosquito”, due out sometime in 2019.
