“Allotrope” is our first glance into the distinct and textural world of Hamburg-based composer and pianist VELT (aka Bogdan Dück). Although his first complete work, the essence of VELT’s palette and basis for its existence is palpable. Most noticeable are the tiny sonic details recorded in intimate settings, which juxtaposed against spacey synths, and hypnotic beats are accentuated to an almost ASMR-like level. At the centre of each track is Dück’s characteristic piano, holding down beautiful and memorable melodic journeys. Across the five tracks on Allotrope, key motifs and moments are cross-pollinated and repeated within various colours and moods. A concise and focused debut, Allotrope shows an exciting peek into the artist’s future.
