Taken from Gemini Sisters self-titled album, out March 31st via Psychic Troubles Tapes.
Gemini Sisters consists of John Kolodij of High Aura’d and Matt Christensen of Zelienople/Mind Over Mirrors. The vision for the collaboration came after the two had daughters born on the same day in the same year under the Gemini sign.
The Gemini zodiac sign is an Air element. Whether incidental or purposeful this vibe sweeps throughout the entire recording. Hazy swells, floating drones, and loose strums are dished out in equal measure. Imagine Zuma era Young joining Flying Saucer Attack to cover a blown out version of Bruce Langhorn’s “The Hired Hand.”
Both musicians come from a distinctly American style of guitar playing, but rather than look to past motifs they both independently utilize elements of drone, distortion and improvisation to make up the base of the tones. Matt Christensen’s vocals are used sparingly throughout, mostly as a texture rather than in a traditional vocal manor. Minimal piano and percussion help to tether us to the earth. But the magic really happens when we linger in the play of duality which floats in the stratosphere.
