Alternative, melodic and beautiful are just some of the words used to describe the music of Calming River, the pseudonym of British born songwriter, Joshua Malcolm. Calming River’s previous releases have been widely appreciated by folk circles, a feature in the Unsigned Guide and have received numerous radio plays across Europe and the UK.
Calming River returns July 6th, with the two-part single, “Haunted”. The two short tracks illustrate delicate finger picked guitar, lyrical poignancy, and backed by cello and piano. One song major key, the other minor, cumulatively the tracks portray the strains of mental health issues, with Pt. II a tribute to one of Malcolm’s favourite writes—the late Jason Molina., “Come back my our side where we can call you// The anodyne of time, a home to heal you” ‘.
Calming River will also be playing a handful of live dates over the summer to coincide with the release including Fanø Folk Festival, Denmark and Reykjavik Melodica, Iceland.
